10 years ago I was...
completing a two-year full-time cabinetmaking programme. I was also working for the Préfontaine family as an English tutor, as a cabinetmaker for a peculiar and unrealised project they had going at their family-owned factory, and managing one of the Préfontaine son's melodic hard rock band. I was eagerly anticipating the season in which Pedro Martinez would win his first Cy Young award (though it didn't come until 1997) - and dismayed at the deep realisation that it was only a matter of time before the Expos were either disappeared altogether or vacuumed up to somewhere south of the border. And - like most of the time - J and I were really poor.
Five snacks I enjoy:
1. well-made fries - the Belgian variety, for example, with seasoned mayonaise
2. all manner of fruit, including dried fruit
3. bread, bread and bread while I'm waiting for toast
4. occasionally, liquorice (allsorts or otherwise)
5. did I mention bread?
Five songs to which I know all the lyrics
1. the complete Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten
2. at least one Abba song
3. Song to the Siren by Tim Buckley (and, of course, also beautifully recorded by Elizabeth Fraser)
4. I's the B'y that Builds the Boat [If you don't know dat one, you don't know Newfoundland, my son.]
5. Solidarity Forever
Five things I would do if I were a millionaire:
1. give much to commondreams.org, democracynow!, fair, sun youth (anti-poverty group), Dans La Rue (streetkids advocacy group), etc.
2. create/sponsor art, writing and (real)journalism
3. travel
4. buy music, books, etc.
5. give nhundred dollar bills to each homeless person I came across
Five bad habits:
1. allowing myself to slip into escapism (and I don't mean reading sf)
2. putting off till the day after what shouldn't have been left till tomorrow
3. not exercising more
4. letting stuff get away from my control
5. clearing my throat
Five things I like doing:
1. creating music, art, writing
2. diddling and related pratices
3. thinking about things while being immersed in music
4. eating
5. engaging in deep, passionate (political, etc.) conversation
Five things I would never wear, buy or get new:
1. anything that had a passing acquaintance with the loathesome p hilton and her ilk
2. thong (new or old)
3. egads, fur
4. logo-wear
5. the wrong political t-shirt (e.g. the Clyde Wells t-shirt a certain misinformed and misguided mother gave me; obviously anything from the John Birch society, the NRA or a press club)
6. a gun
Five favorite toys:
1. the digital camera
2. the guitar and related software (garageband, etc.)
3. the French-press coffee maker
4. Spot the cat's laser pointer
5. the computer like I'm using here, eh?
Blame
Oh by the way, it isn't on this list but I have to add one bit of trivia. Yesterday I discovered that two anagrams of my name are earthworm clinic and cirrhotic lawmen. I am genuinely pleased. Here's a smattering of subsequent findings from google: ( Read more... )
Maybe if someday I become a millionaire I should open a fastidious earthworm clinic...?
